You should care because how fast your Internet access is doesn’t just depend on the speed of your broadband connection. It also depends on how many people are sharing the same connection with you...
Let’s say you wanted to nip to the shops for a pint of milk...
...so you jump in your car. If the roads are clear, you can be there and back in no time. If it’s the rush hour and there are lots of other cars on the roads, it could take much longer. In the same way, the speed at which your PC can retrieve information from the Internet depends on how many other people are using your line at the same time.
Your average broadband provider doesn’t care too much about this
They probably figure they’ve got your money and if your service slows down at busy times, so be it.

We think you should be able to choose how many users you share your line with. That’s why our residential services give you a larger share of available bandwidth for enhanced performance. For example ‘classic plus’ offers better performance over our ‘classic’ service during peak hours. Likewise, our ‘premium’ service offers better performance over our ‘classic’ and ‘classic plus’ service.
Can you give a specific figure for the performance of your service?
Hostit4u Broadband has introduced a new structure of broadband packages based on performance. We prioritise traffic to ensure you get a great customer experience when surfing the Internet and when sending and retrieving emails, on a 24 hour basis.
This is very different to the old ‘contention ratio’ method, which is no longer used by the industry for 8Mbps services. Therefore, we are unable to give a specific ratio figure as this will vary from minute to minute depending on the number of people using our network.
By offering these services, we are putting the performance decision in the hands of our customers. Therefore, if you want an unlimited service but are a light user then Option 1 Basic Home Broadband is ideal, but if you must have the best possible service, then you can opt for Option 4 Evolution Home Broadband package.
